MODERN: A WAY OF LOOKING
CURATORIAL STATEMENT
Modern: A Way of Looking is an exhibition dedicated to understanding Indian Modern art through the works, ideas, histories and conversations that shaped it.
Rather than presenting Modern Indian art simply as a collection of important works, the exhibition creates a space to look, read and understand. Alongside significant works by Indian Modern artists, the exhibition brings together artist monographs, art books, catalogues and archival material, creating a living library around the works on view.
The idea is to encourage a slower, more informed engagement with Indian Modernism—to understand the artists, their practices and the cultural moments in which they worked.
The library becomes an integral part of the exhibition: a place to sit, browse, discover and continue the conversation beyond the gallery.
See. Read. Understand. Collect.
The primary experience is one of discovery: an exhibition that invites audiences to build their own understanding of Indian Modern art.
